JP Auction Sheet (JPAS) gives buyers outside Japan direct access to the records a car is actually sold on — the original Japanese auction sheet, and the vehicle history behind cars registered in the United States and Canada.

The problem we exist for

When you buy a used car from another country, you cannot stand next to it. You are working from photographs, a description and whatever paperwork a seller chooses to show you — and by the time the car reaches you, it has passed through an exporter, a shipping agent and often a dealer.

Japanese auctions already solve part of this. Every vehicle is inspected by an independent inspector who records the grade, the mileage at inspection and a diagram of every dent, scratch and repaired panel. The catch is that the sheet you are shown is a copy, and copies get edited — grades raised, damage marks removed, mileage wound back.

We pull the record from the source instead, using the chassis number or VIN, so what you read is what the auction recorded rather than what a seller retyped.

What we are honest about

Our reports are compiled from third-party records, and no database is complete. An absence of records is not proof that nothing happened, and a report is not a substitute for a physical inspection by a qualified mechanic. What it does give you is the recorded history — usually enough to walk away from the cars that are clearly misrepresented.
